Why not a perfect life?

When Pharaoh finally let the people go, God did not lead them along the main road that runs through Philistine territory, even though that was the shortest route to the Promised Land. God said, "If the people are faced with a battle, they might change their minds and return to Egypt." so God led them in a roundabout way through the wilderness toward the Red Sea. Thus the Israelites left Egypt like an army ready to battle. Exodus 13:17-18
As God's children are led by Moses to the Promised Land, God makes them take the long route.
I can think of so many instances that God has walked me through the long route.
In one of my serious relationships, I asked God to take my feelings away toward him if he wasn't the one. Since He didn't, I felt like that was the sign that we were meant to be together.
I can see how this can seem naive but bare with me.
After our relationship ended I felt so uncertain. How could I trust the Lord when he wasn't faithful to me?
God was faithful.
He was just doing his way.
His timing.
Just like he did as Moses led His people to the Promised Land, the long way.
If God had provided me a perfect life with my relationships, friendships, etc. then would I be able to rely on Him? Would I be ready for battle when the enemy strikes?
If God provided a perfect life then we wouldn't rely on him and be ready for the battle.

As I think through the long route that God has set us on, some things stick out to me:
God knows what is best for us.
God will do what he needs to make sure we are taken care of.
God has the best plans for me, I just need to trust His way.
God protects.
What is God taking the long route for you? Thank him for protecting you.
